Reuseable Water Bottles For Golf Pros Are Debuted By Organisers Of AIG Women’s Open Golf Championship To Contribute Towards A Greener World

Stockholm, Sweden, August 19, 2020 – When the world’s elite women golfers step out onto the pristine fairways of the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland this week for the 2020 AIG Women’s Open Golf Championship they will be sporting unique water bottles that not only promote better hydration, health, and performance, but also contribute to a greener world and less plastic pollution of the world’s oceans.

The elite players have each been given unique, individualised double-wall stainless-steel water bottles from Swedish water brand Bluewater that marry top functional performance to keep drinks cold for up to 24 hours (or hot for 12 hours) with clean design aesthetics, rock solid green credentials, and a lifetime warranty.

“The R&A, organisers of the AIG Women's Open, is providing each player in the field with a personalised bottle with their own name engraved on it as a way to draw attention to the need to eliminate single-use plastic bottles, most of which end up in the oceans and take hundreds of years to decompose,” said Bluewater CEO and founder Bengt Rittri, a Swedish environmental entrepreneur who has made sustainability a core part of Bluewater’s brand mission.

“The leak-proof Bluewater bottle is crafted from food-grade stainless steel and given an eco-friendly non-slip powder coating for a slip-free grip. The screw cap has an eco-friendly silicone seal to halt leaks, a sports cap to aid drinking when on the go, and there’s a cool silicone loop to make it easy to carry or attach to a golf bag.”

Bluewater refillable bottles made their first debut in July 2019 at The 148th Open at Royal Portrush in Northern Ireland, where they were successfully used by players, staff and officials. Together with over 5,000 special edition Bluewater bottles being handed out to spectators by The R&A, and the deployment of on-site Bluewater Water Stations, the project - named "The Open Water Initiative" - enabled all single-use plastic water bottles to be successfully removed from the event.

The 2020 AIG Women's Open will be played from August 20–23 in Scotland at the Royal Troon Golf Club. It will be the 44th playing of the championship, the 20th as a major championship on the LPGA Tour, and the 1st at Royal Troon Golf Club.
